Nishapur, Iran, 10th century
Of hemispherical shape, with rounded everted rim, on a short circular foot, the earthenware body embellished with white slip motifs against a black slip ground, the greenish white decoration consisting of a central stylised bird design with an abstract stippled background to the interior and four groups of parallel lines to the exterior, 13.8cm diam.
Provenance: Stephen Keynes (1927 – 2017), acquired at Spink & Son and other London dealers in the 1960's.
