‡A "BLIND" SHAFFRON IN GERMAN LATE 15TH CENTURY STYLE, 19TH CENTURY formed of a broad medially-ridged main plate flanged outwards over the nostrils, with U-shaped cut-outs at its upper corners to accommodate the ears, embossed with characteristic almond-shaped panels over the eyes, sprays of fluting at the nose, beneath the eyes and around the ear openings, fitted with hinged poll-plate fluted en suite, tubular plume-holder and a central rosette-shaped roundel with spike (the surface in aged lightly pitted condition) 66.5 cm; 26 ¼ in Provenance George F.
