Inscription: Signed by the artist at the bottom of the printing plate.

Date: 17th century

Description: Full-length depiction of the saint and evangelist Matthew in antique-style costume standing on a plinth. In his hands he holds the attribute of his martyrdom, the halberd and a book. In the background is a scenic depiction of the apostle's martyrdom as well as a scene from the life of the saint and his meeting with Jesus of Nazareth. The sheet comes from a series of depictions of the apostles of Jesus Christ by Boudan, which were created in the mid-17th century as votive or devotional images.
