A BRADLEY HUBBARD CAST IRON BLINKING EYE CLOCK PAT 1859

[ translate ]

The Bradley and Hubbard figural cast iron clock characterizes Topsy (sometimes spelled Topsey), the character from Harriet Beecher Stowe's anti-slavery novel written in (1852) documenting the harsh conditions of enslaved African Americans.

The finely cast figure is found in old painted surface of brightly colored enamel paints, presumably the original mellowed with time, the features are animated with blinking eyes tied to the clock movement, the clock dial centered on her skirt and framed by the depiction of a tambourine is stamped 'Pat May 1859' on the brass bezel, unsigned.

Measures 17.25 x 9 x 6.25 inches.

Without proof of exemption, be aware that internet sales tax applies to all Internet transactions and local sales tax may apply to local pick-up transactions.

We happily provide seamless in-house packing and shipping services on nearly everything we sell.

Until further notice, we cannot offer international shipping in-house.
Condition Report: The painted finish in very good condition, some losses to the original painted clock dial. Good condition overall noting a crack in the casting on one leg near the base with some touch up in this area. Very good intact running condition at the time of inspection. The movement winds and runs, the eyes bob in unison. We cannot guarantee the running or timekeeping condition of timepieces once removed from the auction premises.
