A BRONZE 'FOREIGNER' CANDLESTICK
China, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The bearded foreigner cast on a hexagonal base with his left arm raised and right hand resting on his hip, dressed with ornate jewelry and a sash tied across the rotund belly above a tunic with long flowing ribbons, the face with bulging eyes, bushy eyebrows and a cheerful smile. Cast on the top with a candleholder, most certainly a later addition.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and casting irregularities as well as minuscule nicks here and there. Soldering traces between the head and the lower bowl of the candle holder.
