A BRONZE SCULPTURE "IL CAVALLO" DEPICTING A KNIGHT ON A REARING HORSE, AFTER LEONARDO DA...
A bronze sculptural group titled "Il Cavallo, " representing an armored knight mounted on a powerful rearing horse, modeled by Giovanni Beaufort after a sketch attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. The composition is conceived in the spirit of Renaissance revival historicism, drawing inspiration from Leonardo’s celebrated studies of equestrian monuments and martial anatomy. The knight, clad in elaborately detailed armor with an open helmet, is shown twisting dynamically in the saddle while holding a baton or command staff, with a sword suspended at his side. The horse is rendered with pronounced musculature and heightened motion, its forelegs raised and head turned, conveying energy and controlled force. The bronze is finished with a deep, dark patina, subtly worn on the raised details to emphasize modeling and form. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular black-painted base with molded edges, consistent with late 19th- or early 20th-century decorative bronzes inspired by Renaissance prototypes.
Dimensions: H: 11 in., (27.9 cm.)
Condition: The statue is in excellent condition. The paint on the base is peeling and flaking throughout.
