A Berlin silver tea service made for the Duke of Bismarck
Comprising a water kettle and rechaud, teapot, sugar bowl, milk jug and large tray. Of bulbous design with gilt interiors and gadrooned decor. All items engraved with the arms of alliance of Dukes Bismarck and Hoyo beneath foliate crowns. The finials, rings and handles of the burner of ivory. Manufacturer's mark of Gebrüder Friedländer, marked "M" (possibly maker's mark), around 1890. H of kettle with rechaud c. 41 cm, L of tray 72, W 45 cm. Total weight c. 6,655 g.

Herbert Count von Bismarck, the eldest son of the former Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, married Marguerite Malvine Countess von Hoyos (1871-1945) in Vienna on 21st June 1892. He inherited his father's princely title a few years later, after the elder Bismarck's death in 1898.
