A Bernie Taupin love letter to Maxine Feibelman, October 1970
Autograph Letter Signed ("your Bernie"), 4 pp recto and verso, 8vo, Northwood, Middlesex, postmarked October 6, 1970, to Maxine Feibelman, with original autograph transmittal envelope.
Provenance: Collection of Maxine Feibelman Taupin.

"P.S. I'm not in the habit of writing letters like this."

Just ten days before he is to join Maxine again in Los Angeles, Bernie pens this romantic letter to her. He begins by describing Elton John's most recent concert: "Reg played to a packed house at Londons Royle Albert Hall wich holds about eight thousand and got a remarkable ovation considering Albert Hall crowds on the whole." He continues in a more self-conscious vein: "I should be banned from writings letters as Im the worlds worst speller and my writing tends to start in excited letter formation and ends up dribbling into a moronic scrawl. Maybe its because I am basically very lazy and seem incapable of explaining things in great detail in letters ... [your last letter] meant a great deal to me ... you have reassured my faith in a lot of things I didnt think existed anymore, and for that the hours and days can not rush by fast enough until we touch again there may be a sea and sky between us but there is a lifeline between our minds which no element can destroy." Bernie closes, "I love you and need you" and adds the postscript quoted above.
