A CARVED CELADON PORCELAIN ‘PHOENIX’ VASE, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC
China, 1850-1930 or earlier. The vase neatly potted with a bulbous body, tapering towards the circular foot, and an everted lip. The sides with two medallions showing carved phoenixes in shallow relief.
Condition: Some firing flaws, old wear, otherwise perfect condition.
Provenance: Austrian private estate. By repute acquired in the local market before 1980. The glaze of an even pale celadon tone with only the background of the phoenix medallions slightly darker. The foot with a glazed, recessed base.
