of circular section tapering slightly toward the base, the bright cinnabar lacquer on the exterior carved in high relief with a scholar sitting in the window of a studio accompanied by an attendant carrying books, the scholar's attention fixed on the idyllic landscape of mountains, rivers, and lush vegetation, two boys approaching on a path, one on foot and the other riding a water buffalo and playing the flute, followed by an attendant carrying a water bucket and another with a hoe, the surrounding land, water, and sky textured with finely patterned grounds, the interior and base lacquered black
Height 4⅜ in., 11.1 cm
Condition Report:
There is a small loss to the lacquer at the rim (approx. 1 cm), as well as restored small losses and consolidated minor cracks (e.g., to the clouds, sky, and one figure), and minor chips to the foliage. There are minor expected age cracks. The interior and base have been sprayed with consolidant.
