A CARVED PAINTED WALL HANGING ATTRIBUTED SEPIK RIVER
The ornamental totemic wood carving with pigments is attributed to the Upper Sepik River People of Papua New guinea incorporates traditional Wapi bird motifs with a female figure, possibly Maselai.
Provenance: Morton and Estelle Sosland. The Soslands began acquiring examples of African and other tribal art in the 1960s, possibly earlier. Over the last two decades, objects of African Art with provenance to Morton and Estelle Sosland have been sold for up to six figures at major auctions in New York and California.
