A CASED SET OF TWO GEORGE II SILVER TEA CADDIES AND A SUGAR BOX

by Samuel Taylor, London 1750, the pair of caddies of baluster form, the sugar bowl of squat circular form, each with pull-off cover, bud finial and chased with scrolls and flowering foliage, engraved crests and arms, in a mahogany serpentine-front case, the hinged cover with a C-scroll handle, interior lined in crimson velvet, raised on four ball and claw feet. Caddies 14.5cm high, sugar box 15cm high, case 31.5cm wide, gross weight of silver 26.9 troy ounces

The exterior of the case has minor scratches and chips to the woodwork through wear and tear. Mounts are unmarked. Key lacking. The fretwork escutcheon plate does not sit flush with the case, and two retaining pins are lacking. Feet a little bent with the result that it rocks when on a flat surface. Hinges appear unstrained. The cover opens and closes nicely. The case interior is a little untidy. Velvet is worn, particularly in the holders where it has split. Dents and splits to the velvet on the cover. The silver is in good condition with no apparent signs of damage or repair. Some minor surface scratches, dents and dings as to be expected and commensurate with age. All three covers fit well. All hallmarks are clear and readable.
