A CHARLES II OAK AND SNAKEWOOD CHEST OF DRAWERS CIRCA 1680137cm high, 115cm wide, 60cm deep An enclosed chest incorporating similar snakewood inlay and of related form and period, sold in these rooms 15th May 2019, The Collection of Plaish Hall, Church Stretton, Shropshire - The Property of Mrs Roy Merley and Family, Lot 207 (£2,600). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Various old chips and splits. Feet are later replacements and have been re-glued in position at some point. There are some fragmentary losses to the timber in the areas around where the feet attach. Some later nails to hinges. Locks and escutcheons are later 18th or 19th century century replacements. A key is present but both locks are seized. One of the boards to the underside of the chest with large section detached but present. Handles are old replacements but suit the chest well. Backboards are replaced. Shelf to the interior of the lower section is a later replacement. Evidence of old worm, including to the boards of the underside.
