A CHINESE ARCHAISTIC TURQUOISE INLAID BRONZE WINE VESSEL FOU
During the late Eastern Zhou period, 6th-3rd century BC, various inlays were sometimes used to decorate bronze vessels. These inlays included copper, silver, gold, turquoise and a black matrix. The jar is decorated with geometric patterns, flanked by a pair of taotie masks suspending loose rings. The low, conical cover has similar decoration and three hooked projections that function as supports when the cover is inverted.
