A CHINESE BLACK-GLAZED GLOBULAR JAR Tang - Song Dynasty 唐至宋 黑鮋罐 The small globular jar heavily potted with a splayed foot and protruding rim, covered in a thick black glaze suffused with iron-brown mottling that falls short of the foot to reveal a dark buff-coloured body, raised on a fitted wood stand, 8.5cm high, the rim 8cm diameter (2) - PROVENANCE: Previously in the collection of Oleg P. Peresypkin, a long-term Ukrainian resident of Shanghai and later Hong Kong; Later inherited by Augustus Fletcher (1928-2020), thence by descent [see image of receipt]. From 1948 to 1958 Gus Fletcher served in the Colonial Police in Malaya, and latterly was Assistant Superintendent of Police and Area Special Branch Officer in the Kuala Pilau and Bahau Police Districts of Negri Sembilan. He was awarded the George Medal in 1957 after a combined police and military operation code-named “Googly” during the Malayan Emergency.
