A CHINESE EXPORT ARMORIAL OVAL DISH FOR THE INDIAN MARKET Qing Dynasty, 19th Century, circa 1820 清十九世紀 約1820年 外銷粉彩繪徽章紋盤 The oval platter painted to the centre with a coat of arms, probably that of Bahadur of India, composed of tiger and an elephant flanking central crest and above a banner inscribed in urdu, the cavetto with panels enclosing large chrysanthemum blossoms with details picked out in gilt, 33.5cm long - NOTE: This pattern depicted here was inspired by a Worcester porcelain design first made in 1762. The Urdu inscription translate as 'Vizier of the Kingdom, Right [arm] of the State, Bahadur', and probably refers to Bahadur Shah II, the last Mogul emperor. A similar service was given by the Sultan of Malacca to a Dutch navy man named Constantijn Johan Wolterbeck around 1818.Click here to share:Request a condition report
