Mei Lanfang and Zhang Daqian knew each other early on but seldom met. It was not until 1948, when Mei was in Shanghai, that they had multiple encounters. At that time, newspapers featured photos of the two masters meeting. Mei Lanfang had a collection of several paintings by Zhang Daqian.
