A CLOISONNE ENAMEL 'LOTUS' BOX AND COVER, MID-QING DYNASTY

China, c. 1800. Of circular cushion form, supported on a short straight foot, with gilt rims. Finely decorated in bright enamels to the cover with a central flowerhead surrounded by lotus blossoms borne on leafy scrolling vines, repeated on the sides of the box, all against a turquoise ground, the recessed base and interiors of a slightly darker blue enamel.

Provenance: London trade.
Condition: Good condition with some wear and manufacturing flaws including expected pitting. Few dents mostly to the inner rim, surface scratches, tiny nicks, minor flaking with few associated small cracks, losses, and old touchups to enamel on the interior.
