A CLUSTER OF PYRITE CUBES
A CLUSTER OF PYRITE CUBES
NAVAJUN MINA, SPAIN
(41 cm in height). Presented in a custom vitrine.
Pyrite, commonly known in English as "Fool's Gold", is an iron sulfide with a metallic lustre and pale-gold hue, leading the untrained eye to mistake it for gold. The primary deposits of pyrite are found in Peru, however the Navajun mine in Spain, discovered in 1960, is the only one where cube-shaped pyrite crystals are found. Formed 130,000,000 years ago, dinosaur fossils are often found in rocks in the region.
