(A) COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET SINGLE ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER INSCRIBED TO HARRY MORSE, SHERRIF OF

Manufactured in 1856. Matching serial numbers on the barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, arbor and wedge. The backstrap has the inscription "HARRY MORSE / SHERIFF ALAMEDA COUNTY CAL. / 1863". Harry Morse was known as the bloodhound of the far west. He made his reputation by breaking up the gangs of Hispanic bandidos that infested central and southern California in the 1860s and 1870s. He helped in identifying Charles E. Boles as the perpetrator of the Black Bart stagecoach robberies. He also caught and killed Juan Soto, one of the most infamous bandits in California history. CONDITION: This gun has traces of blue finish in the protected areas. The cylinder scene has mostly been worn away. The bore is dark and has pitting in the lands and grooves.
