˜A COMPOSITE GERMAN IVORY-MOUNTED HUNTING SHORTSWORD, 19TH CENTURY with earlier robust curved blade double-edged at the point, inscribed with the spurious date '1414' and engraved with scrolls on each face at the forte, gilt-brass hilt comprising a pair of vertically recurved quillons decorated with foliage and with monsterhead terminals, down-turned shell-guard decorated with a grotesque mask issuant with foliage and fruit, and finely carved ivory grip decorated with a crowned hound mask on a ground of rococo shells, a trophy-of-hunting above and a stag set upon by a hound, in its leather-covered scabbard with brass mounts 35.5 cm; 14 in blade
