A COPPER REPOUSSE FIGURE OF BUDDHA AMITABHA, QING DYNASTY
China, 1644-1912. Executed in repousse over a solid-cast core. Seated in dhyanasana on a sealed double-lotus base with beaded upper edge, the hands lowered in dhyanamudra. Wearing a garment finely incised with foliate designs at the hems and a sash over the left shoulder, richly adorned in beaded jewelry.
Provenance: From a Dutch private collection.
Condition: Small old soldering repair here and there, losses to inlays, the attribute held in his hands lost as well. Extensive wear, dents, few small tears and warping to lower area of the base, remnants of gilt.

The serene face with heavy-lidded eyes under gently arched eyebrows, flanked by long pendulous earlobes, the hair arranged in a high chignon. The seal plate neatly incised with a vishvavajra.
