A Charles I carved oak box, circa 1620, the hinged rectangular top centred by studded initials 'E G', above the roundel carved front, on squat turned feet, 28cm high, 82cm wide, 57cm deep Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and useOld splits and chips. Some old losses. some old worm damage. The hasp and lock plate appear original. The lock is lacking. The hinges to the lid appear to have significant age but are replacements. They have been made in period style. There are some later screws to secure them. The initials 'E G' in metal studs to the lid appear to be original or early 18th century. There is a later small rough hewn short stretcher screwed to the underside of the lid to secure the two parts of the lid together. The shallow turned feet have been later added.
