[ translate ]

A Charles II oak chest of drawers, circa 1660, in two parts, the upper section with geometric mitred drawer fronts, 86cm high, 93cm wide, 51cm deepProvenance: Little Wolford Manor, WarwickshireCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useOld splits and cracks, some chips and losses, joints openingAs catalogued this is made in two parts, there is a catch to the internal carcass to secure togetherThe second long drawer has an old loss to the mitre front - the piece is detached but present. The bracket feet are replacements as to be expected of a chest of this period. The whole is dark stained, there are patches of old dry glue deposits where decorative mouldings have probably been attached - these are entirely missing and have never been present with the chest whilst at DreweattsThere are some later elements to drawer linings and some internal runners. One internal runner is loose in the retaining socketThe handles are probably not original, they appear to occupy the original holes and appear to be of the correct period, no clear evidence of having had any previous handles fitted but the top drawers the backs overlap the moulded drawer fronts in a way probably not by design, Some of these are missing elements of the drops. The drawer fronts are (top-bottom): 11cm high, 21.5cm high, 12cm high, 12cm high respectively Please refer to additional images for visual reference to conditionCondition Report Disclaimer
