This fact-filled map outlines the history of printing in America and lists the earliest and most important achievements in printing for each state. The former names and boundaries of various states and territories are included, and the history of printing even extends into Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, and Peru. Brief biographies on three of the most important names in printing - Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Daye, and Isaiah Thomas - are included in insets. Created by Robert T. Aitchison and printed by the McCormick-Armstrong Company. Aitchison was an illustrator in Wichita, Kansas and produced over 35 pictorial maps for the Mentholatum Company and for the McCormick Armstrong Company, where he established and headed the art department for over 40 years. A companion map of the history of printing in Europe was published in 1931.
