A Chinese Bright Red Cinnabar 'Carp' Snuff Bottle, 83AV

This finely carved cinnabar snuff bottle is worked in vivid bright red colour, modelled in the form of a carp with incised details defining overlapping scales, fins and facial features on one side, with the fish tail and further scaled body presented on the reverse. The carp motif symbolises abundance, perseverance and success in traditional Chinese iconography. The cinnabar surface displays faint fine scratches and subtle patina consistent with age, retaining its rich saturated red tone across the whole body. The decoration is executed with precise incised carving, capped with a smooth bright green domed stopper fitted within a metal collar. Dimensions: Height 8.5 cm (3 3/8 in.), width 5 cm (2 in.)
