Decorated in famille rose enamels with a cat sitting amidst flowering plants issuing from stylised rockwork, looking up at a hovering insect, the base with a four character commendation mark. Period: Republic. Diameter: 8.5 cm.

Torsten Hammarström (1896-1965) was a Swedish diplomat. He was stationed 1947-1950 in Nanking and during the 1950’s in Peking as Swedish ambassador. Acquired at the time in China, thence by descent to the present owners.
