A Chinese Dark Mottled Calcified Jade Standing Figure, 3CH
This standing jade figure is carved from dark jade with patches of greenish tone and extensive pale calcified encrustation over the surface. The figure wears a distinctive curved tall headdress, with clearly rendered facial features and arms respectfully folded across the chest. The long wrapped robe is detailed with neat incised lines marking garment seams, sleeve ornamentation and front sash. Ancient jade human figures were used for ritual purposes, representing supplication and spiritual communication. The stone bears heavy aged patina and chalky calcification, most noticeable on the face, torso and lower robe.
