A Chinese Porcelain Figure Group of Zhong Kui and Four Demons, Qing dynasty, the Demonslayer standing, his sword in his raised right hand, two dens climbing on him, two further demons at his feet, on a rock moulded base, 29cm high
Provenance: Probably lot 663 Sotheby's Monaco, 23rd June 1985 and thence by decent
NB Zhong Kui is a popular Chinese mythological figure who guards against unwanted demons.
A similar example was found in the wreck of the Geldermalsen (sunk 1752) and is now in the Groninger Museum
. Main figure with restoration to left hand right arm, dagger and left leg. Figure to left of main figure with restoration to body. Figure holding up main figures leg with restoration to both arms. Kneeling figure restored, flat chips to underside of base, base warped.
