A Chinese cinnabar lacquer jardiniere
Of lobed quatrefoil form, deep body rising from four short ruyi-shaped feet to an everted rim, finely carved to each side of the exterior with a square panel enclosing three of the Daoist Immortals in a landscape, all reserved on a dense scrolling lotus and trellis ground, the interior and base lacquered black. Period: Qianlong (1736‑1795). Length: 23,5 cm.
There are two similar examples with stands in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum, New York, also dated Qianlong (1736 - 1795), accession number 13.220.56a, b.
