A Chinese pottery sancai-glazed quatrefoil dish, Liao dynasty, the interior moulded with three flowerheads in amber and green glaze on a cream-coloured ground impressed with wave patterns and splashed with green, the cavetto amber-glazed and the rim glazed in green over a band of scrolling patterns, 30cm long c.f. Two similar examples were excavated in Xiaoliuzhangzi, Nincheng county, Inner Mongolia, dated to the 11th century, were exhibited and illustrated in 'Gilded Splendor, Treasures of China's Liao Empire', Asia Society and Museum, New York, 2006, pp. 358-359, cat. nos. 116 a-b. Other examples of this shape and floral design are illustrated in 'Toji Taikei', vol. 40, Tokyo, 1974, no 67, col. pl. 21. A similar dish with a slightly different interior design was sold at Christie's London, 28th March 2018, lot 254. Another similar dish was offered at Sotheby's New York, 17th March 2015, lot 15.
