A Chinese silver regimental table bell, The King's (Shropshire Light Infantry),

inscribed 'Presented to the Officer's Mess 85th Light Infantry by Lt. Col Ravenhill, Augt. 1893', height 15.5cm, approx. weight 11oz.

Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver.

Edward Ravenhill was commissioned on 25 August 1865 into the 86th King's Light Infantry. He served in the 2nd Afghan war of 1879. He was promoted to Lt. Colonel in 1889. This bell was a farewell present to the Mess when he went on the half pay list.
