Lot Description:

A Circa 1920's Three-Blade Faux Tortoiseshell Ventilator or Mechanical Fan, embossed with "La Brise" and the patent number on the white metal centre. Together with A Pretty Paper Fan combining both cabriolet and palmette fan effects, probably of Chinese origin, the top border in panels of pink flower heads, the bottom panel similar, with blue forget-me-nots, a thin cream paper panel with tiny lilac flowers separating them. The very basic wood monture is painted white with a simple silvered design to the gorge. The verso is plain; A Cream Paper Palmette or Jenny Lind Fan for a young girl, the wood sticks painted white and each panel painted with a butterfly; and A Wood Fan, the monture incised and gilded, the double paper leaf printed and divided into panels giving the effect of a cabriolet fan. The verso features a scene of three 18th century couples, skipping, two holding the rope, two skipping, two observing. Floral reserves embellished with small sequins. The verso is white printed in gold, with a central scene of a lady holding her fan in front of her face, shyly, faced with the attentions of her suitor. (4)

Condition Report:
. The first folding fan, made of basic materials, is a little tired. The last folding fan has some splits to the leaf and rubbed folds.
