A collection of approximately 50 vintage rugby union and rugby league match programmes and ephemera, primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom and dating from the late 1960s to the early 1990s. This Welsh-centric collection focuses heavily on Swansea RFC and London Welsh RFC, alongside international touring fixtures. The lot comprises:
A substantial group of Swansea RFC home programmes for fixtures at St. Helen's Ground against opponents including Llanelli, Gloucester, Barbarians, Cardiff, Harlequins, Newbridge, and London Welsh. Notable examples include a souvenir centenary programme for Swansea v Fiji from 8th September 1973 and multiple 1980s editions sponsored by United Welsh Coaches and MicroCompass Business Systems Specialists.
Several London Welsh R.F.C. programmes for matches played at Old Deer Park and Twickenham, including the Special Centenary Match versus Barbarians at Twickenham on 14th September 1985, priced at 50p.
Llanelli RFC programmes including a Stradey Post edition for Llanelli v Australia from 20th November 1984, and a programme for the fixture against New Zealand on 21st October 1980. The collection also includes the Llanelli v N.Z. Maoris programme from 6th November 1982.
International and representative ephemera including the 1975 Rugby League World Championship programme for Wales v Australia at St. Helen's, a Crawshay's Welsh R.F.C. v W.R.U. President's World XV programme from 1984, and the Neath v Australia official souvenir match brochure from 11th November 1992.
Additional items include a Mumbles Rugby Football Club Centenary Dinner programme from 1987, Welsh Brewers Jimmy Michael Memorial Sevens programmes from 1991, and a Whites Swansea RFC magazine, Volume 1, Issue 3.
More Information
The collection is in a condition consistent with age-related handling and storage of paper ephemera. Multiple items exhibit creasing, folding, and blunting to the covers and corners (photo 1). Toning and yellowing are evident on the paper stock of the 1960s and 1970s editions. Staples on older spine edges show signs of oxidation and rust (photo 4). The Llanelli v N.Z. Maoris programme displays significant heavy creasing across the front cover (photo 3). Minor surface scuffing and small ink notations may be present on interior pages.
