A Collection of Seven Vintage Kokeshi

We offer 7 lovely vintage sosaku kokeshi. All have that lovely Japanese feeling to them. They depict a Japanese landscape/portrait and/or have a poem. Two still have some bark visible and one is made from silver birch. One kokeshi is signed by the artisan. The two smallest tare a set. Kokeshi are wooden handmade artisanal dolls from Japan. The most prevalent theory is that they appeared during the Tempo period (1830 - 1843) in the mountainous Tohoku region. Initially, they were intended as toys for the children. Later they became popular souvenirs and real decorative items, for some even collector items. The heights of the kokeshi in this lot range from 10,5 cm to 38,5 cm. Please look carefully at the pictures before bidding. Some have cracks and are worn. More information about kokeshi can be provided after purchase.
