A Collection of Signed Doris M. Evans Exhibition Photographic Prints in Travel Case

A collection of silver gelatin photographic prints by Doris M. Evans, Warwickshire, dating from 1968 to 1969. The collection comprises multiple black-and-white exhibition-sized prints mounted on card, housed within a period travel case. The prints feature a variety of subjects including industrial shipyard scenes with cranes, portraits of men and women, architectural ruins, coastal landscapes, and botanical still life. Several mounts are signed in pencil on the front as "Doris M. Evans" or "D. Evans". One mount reverse bears a handwritten address for "MISS D. EVANS. 24 Lansdowne Rd, Studley. Warwickshire."

The collection bears numerous exhibition labels and member marks. Multiple mounts feature a gold foil adhesive label reading "Photographed by a member of The Stratford-upon-Avon Group of Pictorial Photographers" with hand-stamped numbers "300", "372", and "249". A pink paper label is present for the "LEICESTER AND LEICESTERSHIRE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY" for an exhibition in 1969, signed by "K.W. Padley". A white and blue label for the "Ellesmere Port Open Photographic Exhibition 1968" is attached to one mount, alongside a purple ink stamp for "LINCOLN CAMERA CLUB". A red label details the "MIDLAND COUNTIES PHOTOGRAPHIC FEDERATION ANNUAL EXHIBITION 1968", organised by the "SUTTON COLDFIELD PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY". The prints are housed in a cream textured fabric-covered case with maroon trim and a red plastic handle.

More Information

The photographic prints show good tonal range with minor surface dust and light silvering consistent with age (photo 3). The card mounts exhibit visible foxing and age-related yellowing throughout, with some bumped corners (photos 3, 4, and 10). The travel case shows significant wear, including fraying and staining to the fabric exterior (photo 1) and a torn corner at the bottom right (photo 2). The metal latches and corner guards show surface oxidation and pitting (photo 2).
