Cologne, 1693. Chez Pierre du Marteau. 8x15 cm, p. 720, period leather binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Good condition (leather wear at the corners and on the spine, an ex libris on the endpaper, cracks in the endpapers, rust-colored stains on the pages).
A 17th-century collection of historical, memoir, satirical, and polemical texts related to the history of France in the second half of the 16th century. The volume includes, among other things,a diary of the reign of Henry III, writings concerning Henry IV, and satirical and polemical texts regarding Marguerite de Valois and Catherine de’ Medici. The collected materials primarily concern the reigns of Henry III and Henry IV, as well as the political and social conflicts at the French court. This publication is of particular interest to Polish studies due to the figure of Henry III of Valois—King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1573 to 1574.
