A Collection of a Lustreware Knight Fireplace Companion Set and Seven Brass Items.
An assortment of vintage metalware dating from the mid-20th century. The lot comprises:
A novelty fireplace tool companion set in the form of a standing knight in full plate armour. The figure features a hinged helmet that opens to reveal a ring-pull handle for a central poker. The exterior of the cast-metal figure is finished with an iridescent multi-coloured lustre, displaying purple, green, and blue hues. The hollow reverse serves as a storage rack for the internal tools, which include a pair of fire tongs and a brush handle.
A group of six brass candlesticks arranged in three graduated pairs. Each piece features a baluster-turned stem mounted upon a square base with clipped corners. The candlesticks are of cast and turned construction.
A figural brass hand bell in the form of a lady in traditional Dutch dress. The bell is cast with chased linear detailing to the bodice and skirt, with the lower half of the dress forming the bell.
More Information
The knight companion set shows significant surface oxidation and rust to the internal tool rack, the tools themselves, and the helmet hinge (photo 4 and 5). The iridescent lustre finish on the exterior shows areas of thinning and minor pitting. The brush tool is missing its head, leaving only the handle (photo 5). The brass candlesticks and figural bell show a dull patina consistent with age, with visible wax residue in the candlestick nozzles and scattered oxidation spots across the surfaces (photo 1 and 2).
