A Continental Silver-Hilted Small-Sword
The Hilt Mid-18th Century, The Blade Dated Anno 1789
With tapering colichemarde blade (some old light pitting) of flattened hexagonal section, the forte on one side etched with crowned conjoined 'C' over 'III', a wreath above and crossed palms below, and on the other with the three crowns of Sweden, a moon-in-splendour above and two martial trophies above the date below, hilt finely cast and chased with shells and fluting, comprising boat-shell guard, recurved quillons, arms, knuckle-guard, clam-shaped pommel with flattened button, and roped and fluted swelling grip

The etched decoration on the blade refers to Charles XIII (b.1748), King of Sweden from 1809 and King of Norway from 1814 until his death in 1818
