A Continental Small-Sword With Chiselled And Gilt Hilt

With slender tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section changing to flattened diamond towards the point, the forte on both sides etched and gilt with symmetrical foliated strapwork involving a cherub and design of foliage each in an ovoidal panel, a trophy of arms beneath the hilt, the latter pierced and chiselled with martial trophies, rocailles and foliage, all picked-out in gold and comprising double shell-guard, quillon-block, arms, lobed rear quillon, knuckle-guard, globular pommel with button, and grip bound with three types of twisted and plain steel wire, one strand twisted with brass
