A Continental, probably French, paper and horn mounted fan, mid 19th century, the leaf printed and hand painted with a figural scene of harvesters before an architectural background and with gold painted floral motifs, the parcel gilt sticks and guards carved with foliage and flowerheads; with initials 'H.F.' to the lower leaf, presented in a glazed and ebonised wood case, 31cm high, 56cm wide overall

Condition Report:
The fan bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use. The leaf has one vertical circa 5cm tear along the stick to the left hand side. There are three circa 2cm applied vertical restorations (one on the left and two on the right side of the figural scene). Some minor losses of paint along the creases. In two places to the lower left section of the fan the slightly torn leaf is curling upwards away from the underlying support. Some loss of gilding to the sticks, and one of the horn sticks has a hairline crack (circa 3cm vertical). The fan has not been inspected outside of its case. Some minor losses to the ebonised paint along the edges of the case.
