This finely carved jade plaque is worked from creamy white jade, shaped as a tapered rounded rectangular pendant with a drilled suspension hole at the upper edge, its surface decorated with incised relief detailing depicting a solitary pavilion beside a gnarled pine tree, with rolling mountain contours, flowing cloud forms and a circular sun motif above. The landscape pavilion motif symbolises seclusion, tranquility and the wish for peaceful retreat in traditional Chinese iconography. The jade presents a smooth creamy white tone scattered with faint tiny dark specks across the surface, without prominent russet or burial staining.
