Lovely Winchester Deluxe Second Model 1876 made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1882. According to Madis's research, roughly 22,000 second models were made and probably less than 1000 in Deluxe configuration. Gun has a standard factory blued 28" octagonal barrel with Winchester two-line address and breech marked "CAL 45-60". Standard factory 42A rear sporting sight and No. 21 front blade sight. Blued tubular full-length magazine. Factory case-hardened pistol grip action with factory single set trigger, case-hardened lever and hammer, blued loading gate, and serrated dust cover with screw-fastened rail. Brass cartridge elevator with "45-60" marking in script. Tang is marked on top "MODEL 1876", "XX" under wood on left side and with a "1536" assembly number. Gun is factory stocked in 3x feather crotch American walnut with pistol grip, fine checkering, and an ebony "christmas tree" inlay. Tang channel is stamped with matching "1536" assembly number. Buttstock has factory case colored rifle style steel cresent buttplate with trap; cleaning rod missing. Buttstock has factory installed sling swivel. Matching factory forend has a case hardened nosecap with factory-installed sling swivel. Comes with Cody Research verifying all options. CONDITION: 98% original factory barrel blue with corners turning silver. 98% magazine tube blue with band turning a gray patina. Action has 98% fading vivid case colors with wear on carry points. Wood has 90% original varnish with some noticeable scratches and usage marks with sharp but bruised checkering. Bright bore with visible rifling and solid mechanics. A great, honest, rare '76.
