[ translate ]

1 Medium size 19th century shaped example of a Japanese women. This Japanese metal works known as Shibuichi, which differs slightly form the more norm of Shakudo in that the base metal is silver rather than bronze. This example beautifully detailed, shows us a woman styled as a bijin (beautiful woman) or geisha, dressed in an intricate traditional kimono with a wide obi sash visible on her back. Her hair is styled in an elaborate traditional topknot (nihongami), adorned with gold hairpins (kanzashi). She is holding a closed or partially open folding fan (sensu) or umbrella near her lower hands. The Bridge Post (Giboshi) On the right side stands a prominent stone bridge pillar topped with a traditional onion-shaped finial, known as a Giboshi. These are typically found guarding ancient Japanese bridges, such as the famous Sanj? ?hashi in Kyoto or Nihonbashi in Tokyo. The Background Landscape In the far distance on the left, the iconic snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji rises above a body of water, grounding the setting firmly in Japanese geography. Next to it, traditional tiled rooftops or pagoda-style towers peek through the mist.
