(A) DUBLIN CASTLE BRITISH PATTERN 1759/1778 LIGHT DRAGOON PISTOL.

For an identical example, see plate 6.PP on pg. 237 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. For another example of this pistol, see figure 31 on pg. 124 of "British Military Pistols" by Robert Brooker. He states that from dated examples, it was probably assembled between 1763 and 1767. The tapered round barrel shows no visible proofs. The lock is engraved "DUBLIN / CASTLE" at the tail and has a large engraved crown over "GR" in the center. There is a small crown and broad arrow beneath the pan, denoting British government ownership. Standard brass furniture for this pattern, including an early serpentine convex sideplate as was used on the Pattern 1738 and 1756 Heavy Dragoon pistols. Walnut stock; ramrod is a period replacement with silver cap. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina. Lock has a matching patina and is in its original flintlock configuration, functions well. Brass retains a pleasing soft patina with some darker areas and scattered marks from use. Stock has scattered marks from use and a period-repaired sliver on left side at pommel cap.
