A DUTCH OAK CASED AND SHEET METAL MAGIC LANTERN (TOVERLANTAARN), SECOND HALF 18TH CENTURY

together with several original period glass slides polychrome, some painted with hunting scenes, the others with genre and playful scenes
65m. high, 47cm. wide, 38cm. deep; 2ft. 1½in., 1ft. 6½in., 1ft. 3in.

Condition Report:
In overall good condition. The mahogany veneer with very minor scratches and chipping to edges, consistent with age and use. A vertical age crack to the top front, as visible in the catalogue image. The sheet metal with minor losses and tarnishing as to be expected, and as visible in the catalogue image. In total: 12 small picture strips with pink borders (including one strip that is broken), 1 small picture strip with a wooden frame, 9 bigger picture strips (including one that is slightly loose from the frame), 5 strips with four circles pierced, 5 strips with each one elongated rectangle pierced. The lock to the right handside drawer (in which there is an arrangement of slots for the strips) is loose, and although it is missing three pins, the lock is securely attached to the drawer front, slightly loose front. One key. The main part of the item above the long drawer slides forwards and reveals an interior where candles can be placed, some residual wax. The reflector is present. There is no oil burner.
