[ translate ]

A Danish figured walnut and parcel gilt serpentine commode, second half 18th century, the mottled marble top above four long drawers flanked by chamfered angles, above a foliate carved gilded frieze incorporating outswept scroll feet, 87cm high, 82cm wide, 42cm deep

Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Chips of loss to gilded areas and wear. some old repairs. Various chips to edges of the marble (see images) including a larger shallow chip of loss to the rear right corner. It is possible that the marble top is associated but it does match the shape well. There is an overhang at the back of the commode of about 1cm in depth when the marble is in place. The marble has not been significantly cracked or broken before. Some dark filler used to fill some old losses or slender cracks caused by shrinkage to side panels. Some old worm damage to the rear panels but not significant or causing significant loss. The drawer fronts appear to have been applied with a darker stain/ varnish previously but all underlying timber appears original. Some of the losses have been filled with a dark coloured filler. (see images) All elements original including metalware. Lacking keys to locks. Please refer to the additional images for visual reference to condition.
