Catalogue Note:
Laurent Ridel was recorded in the Rue aux Ours in Paris in 1800. He supplied a cartel clock to Louis XVI's aunts Mesdames Victoire et Adélaïde at the château de Bellevue before 1789. He collaborated with the enameller Coteau for his dials and sourced high quality cases from Deverberie, Mathelin and Lemoyne.

This particular model enjoyed a degree of success, and two almost identical versions in white marble and gilt bronze are illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la pendule française du Moyen-Âge au XXe siècle, Paris 1997, p.265.
