A Dutch walnut and marquetry chair

A Dutch walnut and marquetry chair, second half 18th-century, the vase shaped splat decorated with a bird perched atop an urn issuing floral branches, above the shaped drop in padded seat, on shell carved tapering cabriole legs terminating in hairy paw feet, 103cm high, 55cm wide, 48cm deep, together with a Queen Anne walnut chair, circa 1710, the vase shaped splat above the shaped drop in padded seat, on scroll carved tapering cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, 102cm high, 54cm wide, 49cm deep (2)

Provenance: Gayton Hall, Wirrall

Condition Report:
Both chairs with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old chips, splits and some losses. Both chairs structurally solid overall. Dutch chair- Evidence of old worm with filler used to disguise. Dowel and glued repair to split through back leg. Two dowels have been used to the back of one front leg to help secure. Later upholstered drop in seat with some marks and wear. Section of veneer lacking to top of seat rail. Carved elements of the feet appear to have been re-glued at some point and have moved slightly. Queen Anne chair- Some evidence of old worm. Later blocks to the underside. Some later dowels used to the back of the chair to help secure the top rail and one seat rail (see images). Later upholstered drop in seat with some marks and wear. Section of veneer lacking to top of seat rail. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
