(A) ENGRAVED 2" COLT MODEL 1877 THUNDERER DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER.

According to the Colt Factory archive letter, this gun left the factory as a .41 Colt with a 2" barrel. It was nickel with rubber stocks. It was shipped to B. Kittredge and Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 13, 1879, in a shipment of 20 guns. It was subsequently period engraved, and a set of one-piece ivory grips were added to the gun. It has a two line address on the left side of the barrel, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". There is a three line patent date on the left side of the frame, and a caliber mark on the left rear trigger bow. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and the backstrap. The last three digits of the serial number on the back of the cylinder. Half moon front sight and a V notch rear sight. The engraving is mostly a foliate and scroll pattern with a punch dot background. There are other geometric designs and borders incorporated into the engraving. The engraving was executed by a master engraver. After all the work was done on this gun it was period renickeled. CONDITION: This gun retains virtually all of the period reapplied nickel finish. There is a small spot of pitting on the left side of the barrel by the address. The grips show some age cracks. They fit this gun extremely well. The bore has some frosting in the lands and grooves. The action works in both single and double action. The screw heads have not been molested.
